Carla and a Friend I, II, III

While working on Animal Crossdressing, an interesting side project materialized. The pet snake that I was working with, Carla, had befriended a rat that was initially given to her to eat. They had been cohabitating for weeks at the point when I met them (the snake had eaten other rats but wouldn't touch this one). The animals were completely comfortable with each another and I produced a series of photographs that documents their interaction. This idealized "friendship" was easy to embrace, and the images aimed to place the viewer in a double bind: should this highly unnatural state of affairs be accepted and sentimentally celebrated?
